The Fort Wayne Bike Commuter is huge in China?

I check my stats on the blog every once in a while and in the last few days there has been a huge up tick in pageviews from China. Can someone in China explain this to me please?

Critical Manners/Courteous Mass March 2011

When will it be? Friday, March 11, 2011
Will it be cold? Probably mid to low 30s so no!
Will it be fun? Yes
Will it be a workout? Maybe, we don't ride that fast
Will we be on major roads? Maybe, Maybe not.

All parties are welcome to join and help bring common courtesy back to the streets. For those who need a refresher on what Critical Manners/Courteous Mass is, here is the deal:
• The ride will respect and abide the city’s traffic laws.
• Rides will be on the slow side to ensure no one is dropped and that the Mass stays a mass.
• The Mass will only take up one lane, two when necessary for safety.
• The ride will stop at red lights and stop signs. If a light turns red mid-mass, the riders who made the light should safely pull over to wait for those who were caught by the light.
• Riders are asked to signal turns, call out danger, and communicate their intentions to other riders.

The goal of these rides is to be a visible and positive example of the cooperation that can exist between cars and bicycles when people respect the laws and each other.
Also, to help those who maybe aren't used to cycling vehicularly. There are a few of us who do it all the time so we could throw you some pointer i.e. it is a learning experience.
So join the CM2 and help make Fort Wayne a better place for bicycles. This Friday at Lawton Park by the Softball Field. We meet at 6:15 and ride at 6:30

Summit City parking lot is a harbinger of spring

Much like spring rains, or the first robin sighting, the Summit City parking lot and store were full last night. Spring is here people and if your bike needs a tune up then I will again recommend that you take it in quickly.

I have commuted by bike for 3 years straight this week

It has been a sweet run. I am stoked that I have been able to do it. Thanks for all of the support that everyone has given me. How long will it be before people stop asking me if I rode my bike to work today? Maybe ten more years?
It hasn't always been easy, it is sweet to know that it can be done though. After reading a few blogs from the twin cities area, I have it easy down here in FW. Those folks up there are serious!

There is a good chance that I won't be posting much for a while

I just got the most recent American Bicycles magazine. In it they talk about all of the great things that cities and non profits are doing around the country to make biking easier and more accessible. I started this blog in an attempt to build up the commuter and bicycling community. I do not feel that this has been very successful.
I do feel as though the city is making some strides. The bike fort Wayne plan has been written, there are some more bike racks downtown, Rudisill, Wayne, and Berry got bike lanes thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (thank you President Obama). We have a few people show up to the courteous manners critical mass rides every second Friday of the month.
There also was a great article featuring a former colleague of mine in South Bend. I lived there close to five years ago and it is awesome to see how far that City has come. When will people realize that this is another way to keep us competitive as a city? Walkable/bikable communities will be more apt to succeed in the future.
I will be looking into some other avenues that might help fort Wayne to succeed. I don't know exactly what yet but .... I will probably keep up on the Twitter feed in the meantime. Once my discouragement for the status quo wanes, I am sure that I will get back to this, but for now, I have got to meet with a couple people to see what they think we should do. Thanks for reading.

Well here is an update. I am not discouraged any longer. In fact I am encouraged by all the stuff going on.
I will still be looking to partner with existing organizations to further advocate for cyclists rights.
I still have to sit down with some folks and figure out the plan for this year. Thanks to all of you who read this and for the words of encouragement.
